... 1999-2000 Inductees At the September 14th, 1992 meeting of the North Star League, the membership voted unanimously for the league to have its own Hall of Fame. Six members were selected and awards were first presented during the 1993 season. 2001& 2002 Inductees 2001 Ray Winter of Maple Lake Ray was a catcher and also played third base for the Lakers in the 40's and 50's. Hitting over .300 every year while throwing out many base runners. Ray was an excellent teacher to the younger ball players. Elroy Barthel of Albertville Elroy was an excellent .300 hitting catcher for the Millers along with playing third base and co-managing the team with his brother Sylvester. After his playing days Elroy continued to big a big booster of Albertville baseball and was instrumental in getting the current Albertville team started. Fran Barbeln of St Michael Fran was on of the league’s best catchers in the 40's and 50's. No team attempted to steal on Fran as he had s stretch of throwing out 12 straight runners in first and third situations. Fran hit over .300 every year with many of those years he was over .400. Fran was a very unselfish player who always put winning ahead of individual goals. Ken Keating of Waverly Ken was an excellent right fielder who had a great arm for “Red” throwing runners out as well as an excellent glove. Ken won three batting titles in the 30's and 40's and was a lifetime .300 hitter.
2002 Rick pitched 13 years for Loretto. Rick was a two-time league E.R.A. champ and a two time E.R.A. league runner-up. Rick had an excellent curve ball along with a great fastball. Rick was Loretto’s money pitcher pitching the big games for Loretto. Carold Anderson of Kingston A very versatile player being able to play pitcher, catcher, shortstop, etc. Carold was an excellent hitter, hitting over .300 for 15 years. Carold also displayed power along with being an excellent base runner. Carold’s teammates remember him as being a great TEAM player all the time. Gerald Ramthun of Buffalo A center fielder that covered the outfield like a glove according “Whitey” to teammates. Excellent hitter and great team player. His last three years he also managed the team. Paul Servin of Dassel Center fielder for Dassel for 17 years. A lifetime .300 hitter who
hit over .400 many times. Paul was noted for his speed on the base paths
and also in covering the outfield. Paul was highly regarded not only
by his teammates but by the opposing players as well. |
